The CPBS clinic is dedicated to helping those in distress due to the COVID-19 pandemic. While every individual has a social responsibility to engage in physical distancing to help “flatten the curve,” it is also essential to remember that SOCIAL CONNECTION is more important than ever. PHYSICAL DISTANCING ≠ SOCIAL ISOLATION. Most of us are fortunate enough to have technology to continue to make social connections while simultaneously helping health care workers in an overburdened health care system. Please stay home and do your part to support essential workers and those most vulnerable in society. Fear mongering and panic will not help. Spread kindness, love, and support to others as we ride out this crisis TOGETHER (e.g., family, friends, neighbours, acquaintances, complete strangers).
It is also important to stay informed by following accurate information based on science and research that is provided by credible sources and experts in the field. Please try to avoid unfamiliar websites or biased online discussion groups in which people share stories or post information that may or may not be true. That is, be cautious when considering the reliability of the content you come across and fact check the information posted on social media (e.g., Facebook, Instagram and Twitter).
A variety of literature, resources and website links have been collected and listed below for your convenience. Please keep checking the website as the CPBS clinic will continue to provide updates and free resources for those in our community. In response to the COVID-19 crisis, CPBS temporarily offered free psychological services to children and families in distress who did not have access to extended health benefits for the first four months after school closures. Similar free services are now available through the Ontario Psychological Association’s Disaster Response Network by calling Ontario 211 on your cell phone or by speaking to your family doctor for a referral.
Psychological services are also available through our clinic at our regular hourly rate via in-person, videoconferencing, and/or telephone. There are also many free resources and access to other mental health practitioners in the community. Please see the Resource section of the website for further details and contact information.
Please stay happy, calm, and healthy!
Kindest Regards,
Dr. Maggie C. Clarke
